Ophidiophobic (Poem)

The other day a good friend of mine called to vent about some relationship problems she was having, and through our talk, I only grew more frustrated with the way people behave. We can pinpoint the blame on anything, the disillusionment that social media offers us, the selfish things were taught in our youth, whatever you want to make the bad guy, there is a clear line between what is acceptable and what isn’t regarding relationships.

It’s a common theme I see in my age group especially, that things must be defined and almost written in contracts for one another to understand and accept. We have “the talk” to solidify our relationship, we have mysterious rules and regulations to explain what is and isn’t being unfaithful. We even create worries within ourselves to explain away our own inability.

The worst part about all of it is that we can so freely and carelessly destroy someone else’s emotions without so much as an afterthought about what our actions have done.

So I’m highlighting it today.

If it’s clear that the person you’ve been in a casual relationship with has feelings for you…

don’t sleep with someone else. Not until you explain to them that you aren’t in the same place. End your current relationship before you put yourself in a grey area that’s a bit too close to infidelity.

Moreover, cheating isn’t just the act of engaging with someone else. It is the thoughts you have, the messages you send, the way you talk to someone who isn’t your partner.

Don’t be careless, because there are other people involved, other people who are invested in your love, even if they know you aren’t giving it in return.

Don’t turn safety into misery.

2019.1.2- Ophidiophobic

Thank you for taking some time out of your busy day to spend here with me. I appreciate it more than you know.

Have you ever felt betrayed? Used? If it still hurts you, and if it is still fresh in your mind, I hope that 2019 will be the year you can overcome it and let it go. It doesn’t have to stay. It doesn’t own you. Let it go, move on from that pain and be better because of it.

Just as a side note, how are you liking the new blog setup? I hope it’s been making things a bit easier for you to view everything. These changes all come on the eve of the Firesoul Ignition, which drops tomorrow! I hope you’re excited for more short stories from your boy.
